Warehouse Racking Inspections by Kiwa KVVM

Under Dutch Occupational Health and Safety legislation (Arbowet), employers are responsible for providing a safe working environment. Companies with warehouse facilities must regularly assess whether their warehouse remains safe for employees. A Kiwa KVVM warehouse racking inspection provides a clear overview of the condition of your storage systems, enabling you to identify risks and determine the actions required to safeguard the safety of your personnel.

In many warehouses, the focus is on working quickly and efficiently, which can sometimes cause legal obligations and safety requirements to receive less attention. Damage to a warehouse rack, for example, can have serious consequences if it is not detected and addressed in time. Responsibility for warehouse safety is therefore often assigned to a specific employee. But how can that person be certain that the warehouse provides a safe workplace for staff?

A warehouse racking inspection by Kiwa KVVM helps you gain clear insight into the condition and safety status of your storage systems. We offer the following inspection services:

•    Periodic warehouse racking inspections
•    One-time warehouse racking inspections
•    Post-renovation warehouse racking inspections

Kiwa KVVM inspects warehouse racking systems using its own inspection methodology, developed in accordance with applicable legislation and industry standards.

Periodic Warehouse Racking Inspections

During periodic warehouse racking inspections, our inspectors assess any damage, defects, and deviations from applicable standards. The inspection is carried out using Kiwa KVVM’s proprietary methodology. Following the inspection, you will receive a comprehensive report based on Dutch and European standards and regulations.

The inspection report is available immediately after completion of the inspection and includes a detailed explanation from our inspector. You will also receive a Kiwa KVVM Proof of Inspection. In addition, Kiwa KVVM offers the possibility of obtaining an Inspection Certificate. Once all identified non-conformities have been resolved and successfully reassessed, a Kiwa KVVM Inspection Certificate will be issued.

One-Time Warehouse Racking Inspection

We can perform a one-time inspection of your warehouse racking systems, for example when an independent second opinion is required. The inspection is carried out in the same manner as an annual inspection and includes a baseline assessment.

A one-time inspection is often used for temporary warehouses or storage facilities. It is also suitable for inspecting a specific section of a warehouse or mezzanine floor. Furthermore, a one-time inspection may be required as a supplement to a Risk Inventory and Evaluation (RI&E) report.

Warehouse Racking Inspection Following Renovation or Modification

Following renovation work or operational changes, the original design specifications of the racking system or warehouse layout may no longer be valid. This may affect load capacity information displayed on load signs, as well as the positioning of goods within the racking system. In addition, standards and best practices regarding anchoring requirements may have evolved over time. The year of installation of the racking system determines which standards are applied during the inspection.

To ensure a safe warehouse and working environment after renovation or modification, it is common practice to carry out an inspection to verify continued compliance with occupational health and safety requirements. Kiwa KVVM can also perform a new baseline assessment for your facility.

A warehouse racking inspection by Kiwa KVVM provides valuable insight into the condition of your storage systems and helps you determine any corrective actions that may be necessary. By doing so, you fulfil your duty of care as an employer and help ensure a safe working environment for your employees in accordance with occupational health and safety legislation.
